THE 10 CLOSEST Hotels to Foxwoods Resort Casino ...

Demanded extra tier credits at The Cromwell & a good run with a sour end at Bally's

Spent the weekend in Vegas with my wife. Only really played craps extensively on two occasions, and figured I'd sum those up here, as both had some interesting pieces...
The Cromwell 2/22
Decided to check this out after all of the hype, even though I'm not really enough of a high roller to actually want to put 100x odds behind. The table was ice cold for a while, even with the (kind of snobby?) dealers commenting that no one had hit a point in about an hour. I switched to the DP and was at least keeping my head slightly above water, until a high roller showed up, casually throwing down about $15k in cash. The dealers seemed to be familiar with him. He had quite a bit of energy - some players thought he was annoying, I thought he was pretty funny, and for some reason he would shout "Goddamn bloody Foxwoods!" every time there was a 7 out.
Eventually he noticed my DP bet and the point was 4, and so he asked if he could put $1,000 behind it. I hesitated at first before recalling some stories where high rollers will tip players they can win off of, so I let him, and it became a routine, probably 7 or 8 times whenever the point was 4/10. He made a good chunk of change this way, but sadly, the only "tip" I got was when I decided I wanted some odds too, so he couldn't put $1,000 without capping out. He'd pay the extra $10 or whatever to increase the cap and I kept that plus the 1:1 payout when it hit, so I guess I made about $30-40 from him throughout the night. BUT, the next day, when I checked my new Caesars Rewards account, I only had 92 tier credits from the session. I told the Rewards desk and they said I was only written up for a $34 average bet and "you can talk to the pit boss about it if it's wrong." Went back over and it was an all new pit boss with all new dealers. So I said, "hey, numerous times last night, I had $1,000 behind my bets." I'm in a ratty T-shirt and gym shorts, so the pit boss looks at me like, "Really?" I said, yeah, check the tapes, here's where I was standing. He didn't, but I guess that was enough for him to believe me (and it was technically true). So I got about 700 extra tier credits. Better than nothing!
A friend later told me that it's pretty common for high rollers to do this, so that they can eliminate the risk of even taking a line bet. By only piggybacking into odds bets off other players, he's playing the only true odds game with no house edge.
Bally's 2/24
Decided to stop by Bally's to play before we had to head to the airport. Funny enough, I bumped into one of the other players who I was next to at The Cromwell. I bought in for $300 and it was a little cold at first, but we started to get some really good shooters, one of whom promised he could hit field numbers for a long time before 7'ing out, and damn, he did. Had an excellent shooter who was hitting 4s and 10s like it was easy, so I was putting more odds than I'm usually comfortable doing, and he was easily hitting 6s and 8s, so I was pressing those more than I usually do, too. Eventually I'm up about $150 with Bally's money, and it's time to head to the airport. Point is 4. I decide to put $50 odds, $10 on the 5 and 9, $25 on the 10 and $30 each on the 6/8. All their money.
Shooter throws the dice and they stick to his hand for a second and dropped, hit a stack of chips in the centerfield, and landed as a 7 without even really crossing the middle of the table. And they called it. I'm always irritated when they don't "no roll" dice that don't hit the back wall but I guess this is technically within their right to call, but I was right back to what I started with, and we all just cleared out. The table was now empty. Kind of dumb from a business perspective, because if it was a legitimate 7, I think most of us would have stayed for a bit longer, but the fact that the call was such BS... we all bailed. So the casino made a short term gain but a long term loss.
It's weird to describe my anger at that situation. I knew I was risking the $150 and it wasn't even my money, so an authentic 7 would have been a disappointment, but I would be a good sport about it. It's just the lousy throw and the multiple interferences the dice took that gave us a 7 really soured the entire experience and seemed like a cheap shot. I bet if it was a 6 or 8, they would have no roll'd it so they didn't have to pay us, but that's just the cynic in me.
Bonus - Hotel: The Cosmopolitan
We decided to check the Cosmopolitan out because some Redditors told us it had an in-room 2 person hot tub in certain suites, and they're in network with Marriott. As a road warrior for work, I'm a Marriott Titanium Elite, so not only did I have the points to get the room for free, but I only booked the mountain view one, yet they upgraded me to the fountain view for free as a status perk. The tub was nice but was really just a large tub, not a jacuzzi or true hot tub, but it still got plenty of use nevertheless. The vibe at the Cosmopolitan is definitely a more millennial-geared one with a weird 1950s-60s vibe. Think about the 20 year olds who (un?)ironically watch old classic films. That's pretty much their target demographic.
I don't know if I'd stay there at the regular sticker price of $200/night, which is high to me by Vegas standards. Even with my recently slashed MLife status, I know I can get the Aria for $89. But it's definitely worth checking out once if you want to treat yourself, and/or have 140,000 Marriott points to burn.

Hotels near Foxwoods

Looking for recommendations for hotels near Foxwoods for a one night stay in April. Going with 4 other friends, we’d ideally like to stay in one room (probably two beds and a couch) but are open to two rooms. Definitely would like one with a shuttle to the casino.
Thank you!

Red Sox Winter Weekend/MGM activities

So the Sox Winter Weekend has been moved to the MGM rather than Foxwoods this year and I am a little worried that it is just too small to accommodate all the people.
I feel like I will be spending some time out of the casino just to get away. What are some good restaurants and nightlife stuff to do in that area? Staying at the Tower Square Hotel. In late 20's, like drinking and pretty much any food.

Missing in CT: Kevin John Belknap

This is the sixth of my “Missing in Connecticut Series.” I will be introducing you to the missing people of Connecticut every Wednesday (according to this list on CharleyProject: ). Please see my history for the previous submissions and share your thoughts about this case below!
Kevin John Belknap was born on May 24, 1950. He was 5’10 and between 185 and 190 pounds. He was white. His brown hair was going gray. Some sources state he had brown eyes, others state they were hazel. The only identification information on file in this case is dental records.
Kevin was a blackjack dealer at Foxwoods Resort Casino. The casino is located on the Mashantucket Pequot Indian Reservation. 25% of the casino’s revenue goes to the state; as of 2007 that amounted to $200 million. Foxwoods is much more than a casino - it also has hotels, fine dining, and shopping. There is another popular casino nearby, Mohegan Sun. If this sounds like an advertisement, I’ll admit that I am one of the many people who enjoys going occasionally (although I am in no way affiliated!). The Pequot Museum is nearby, it’s the largest Native American museum in the world, and it rocks. If you are ever in the area, you should definitely check the area out!
83 current or past employees rated Foxwoods on GlassDoor and gave it a 2.9 out of 5 for overall work environment. One common complaint listed is that there is not a lot of upward mobility at the casino and that tribal members are preferred for positions over other people. Was Kevin unhappy with his job?
Kevin had just gotten off of work on April 8, 2001. He was last seen at his residence at 20 Cutler Street in Stonington, Connecticut at 5:00 pm that day. The house can be seen here to give context to his case: Stonington is a small coastal tone. It serves as the backdrop to the 2012 film Hope Springs if you are interested in getting a visual of the area!
Kevin has never been seen or heard from again. His wife reported him missing four days later on April 12, 2001. What was the state of Kevin’s marriage like? Was there some marital unhappiness? Why did she take so long to report the man as missing? Or, was it that he ‘disappeared’ often? Or did the police give her difficulty in reporting him missing? (Some jurisdictions seem to make people wait for long periods before making official reports.)
His blue 1998 Buick LeSabre was later found abandoned in the vicinity of Watch Hill in Rhode Island. According to google maps, this trip would take about 12 to 20 minutes during 5:00 traffic on a weekday (this assumes that he left right after he was supposedly last seen.) Watch Hill is an exclusive, wealthy coastal village located in Westerly, Rhode Island. The village is filled with sprawling Victorian-style cottages which may look modest, but are extremely expensive. Taylor Swift, Conan O’Brien, Henry Ford (of Ford Motors,) and Clark Gable are only some of the town’s past and present residents.
Kevin’s car was unlocked and his work uniform was left in it. There was no other sign of him at the scene. A search was conducted of the surrounding land and sea but nothing was located.
Bolleswoods commented stating that despite the wealth of the area, the beaches are public. Due to the fact that it was April, they may not have been populated heavily at the time. This is especially true when you consider the fact that it was cold and windy on the day he went missing (thanks deeperintomovies for looking it up.) She states that one beach in particular, Napatree Point is long and isolated. It has an abandoned fort from the 1900s with underground tunnels. She posits that if Kevin wanted to take his life, it may have been a good place to do so.
Did Kevin run away from an unhappy life? Did he have a mental break which prompted his leaving? Did he take his own life?
Did Kevin’s disappearance have to do with his job at the casino? Did he anger a wealthy client and get lured back to Watch Hill to face the consequences? If that was the case, why was his uniform located in his car? Why was there no other evidence? Could a murderer’s financial or social status make it easier to do away with a body? Does Watch Hill keep secrets for its residents?
Hopefully this secret will be leaked someday.
Bolleswoods commented that [s]he used to live in Stonington and has family and friends who still do. According to their dad community belief is that Kevin ran away from a girlfriend and is no longer considered missing. He is still listed as actively missing on some sites including the Charleyproject (hence my post,) NamUs, etc. I am not sure how frequently the sites are updated, though. Perhaps that is the informal, popular belief and police haven't found evidence so they have to keep the case open.

Foxwoods Inquiry

I understand that all Foxwoods hotel balconies are now locked. Might anyone have any information/pictures of the type of locks used and/or enforcement methods/protocols the casino might employ in regard to guests who manage to circumvent said locks?

Casino/Hotel recommendations for recent college grad?

Hey guys,
As the title says, I recently graduated college and looking to make my first trip to Vegas. I love gambling. I've been to Foxwoods and Mohegan Suns countless times on the east coast. Blackjack, craps, and poker are my big games. I also like to parttake in recreational substances on my nights out.
I'm looking for what people would recommend as the best options for hotels/casinos for someone in my age range. My friends and I are looking to gamble, party, and have a typical Vegas weekend.

Roulette Fun (WarmDeck story)

Read more WarmDeck stories here:
Roulette Fun This story takes place December 2011. I plan a trip to the casino with my GF and some others. I thought it would be nice to get everyone together for a night on me. So I invite my step-sister and her BF who I do side business with. Also her cousin which is my step fathers nephew, and his wife which is a long time friend of my GF. Poker Jay also weaseled his way in on this trip. So I head down with my GF and we get to Mohegan Sun at about 6PM. I was comped two regular rooms because of my players club card and check in. I drop bags in room and proceed downstairs with the $2k I brought. Lose my routine $40 shot at slots and head to a single-zero roulette wheel.
During this time frame I believe I am a roulette wizard. I win almost every time I play and am up about $25k in past month and a half on roulette. I've only been playing it seriously for 2 months by the way. Good ole beginners luck. So I really believe in dealer signature, number pairing, and where they release ball. So I buy in for $500 in colored nickels. Watch a couple spins, then start placing numbers. I play sections and hit right way with $150 spread out for $700. A four chip number. Next couple spins I'm spreading out $300 or so and am breaking even on two chip numbers. Then hit a six chip number for $1050 and take $500 over. Cant remember exact number that just hit, but on the board the last time that number hit, 22 came after. So I loaded up 22 with $155 I think and about $500 total spread out. BANG! 22.. I take $5k over, tip the dealers, and spread the rest of my chips out. Was roughly $1k and I hit a 3 chip number for $525. I tell dealer to color me up for another purple and leave $40 for them. I'm pretty happy with this solid start to the trip.
So now I head to the cage to cash in chips and ask for my $6k in all 20's. Yes twenties, I'm just in that kind of a mood. Wanted to feel like a real Big-Shot. I head over to pick up 4 comp tickets for the Jennifer Lopez show that night and head back to the lobby to meet my girl and everyone else who just arrived. Now a little background on my guests. My step-sister and I met in 2005 and hung out for a couple year mostly just on drinking nights. We don't necessarily get along as well anymore. Not sure the reason but she can be very fake. Her BF I've known for close to 2 years since they started dating and he sure knows how to burn money. I believe he blew close to $30k on blackjack and owed money everywhere. I would make money off him by bankrolling his weed plays and juice him on the front. We got along good but things got bad at a certain point about the money he owed me and him not having the weekly payments. Now my step-sisters cousin was a little older than me and I've never really liked him. He always gave off that dirtbag vibe. His wife I went to school with and she is very good friends with my girl. She is nice and we've always got along good. I actually banged her years before. Anyway I give them their room keys for the room they're sharing and flash my winnings. U could see the sour look in the eyes of both guys.
We all head up to the rooms to get unpacked. Then I take them all down to the lounge so they can get drinks and eat before show. I also see my host while we are there and I try to give him a Christmas gift of a $200 gift card. I'm in the giving mood since my new found gold mine roulette has been so good to me. He tells me policy has changed, that he can't accept cash or gift cards. I end up giving it to my GF and tell her to use it for Christmas shopping. Poker Jay finally arrived and calls me looking for a C-note. I meet him, he's off to the 1-5 stud game and I'm off to the room to shower and get dressed while everyone else goes to the show.
I get done and my GF and them are still in show so I call up my buddy Chris who lives near casino. I've known him for a couple years and we get along good. I stake him in poker sometimes and we party a lot. Overall he's a good guy. So him and Jay meet me back in the room and I get a couple grey goose bottles, carafe of OJ, and a carafe of cranberry sent up. I have Jay set up my stereo and we make drinks. We go downstairs to meet everyone after the show and have more drinks. Then the girls separate for dancing while the guys gamble. After a couple hours of playing like a maniac, I have only $3k left. I lost almost all my profit and gave my step-sisters BF a couple hundred to play with. Everyone had went back to the room by now and were going to sleep.

At this point I am determined to win my money back. Chris and I are only ones of our group still on gaming floor. He is just railing me on a roulette table. I buy in for $1k and am spreading $200 a spin. There is another gentleman on the table who is losing too. Dealer is bricking every spin for us. So by like the 4th spin I start to root for a number neither of us have as a joke. When it hits, the guy goes insane on me. I basically tell him to relax and if he can't handle losing he shouldn't gamble and laugh it off. He then goes "You think it's funny? I'll kick your ass!". He is older than me and has been drinking, definitely not a threat. But my buddy Chris jumps up in my defense like hes ready to fight the guy. Creates quite a scene and security comes. Security decides to tell me to leave the table and go to my room. There was some favoritism being played. I feel it was the age issue and security automatically assumes we were the problem. Chris ends up getting a 24 hour ejection and is escorted out as he curses at every security guard. They did let him go un-register for a tournament I pre-registered him for the next day. He's gone and I head back to room.
Jay is in one bed sleeping and my GF is in other. I decide this is no fun so I head back downstairs to play blackjack on a table that a girl I've been talking to is dealing at. +$500 and a shoe and a half later, security comes up behind to tell me I'm gone. He states that he told me to return to my room and not come back down. I get a permanent ejection and have my photo taken. They escort me up to my room where I wake Jay and my GF telling them we have to leave. We pack and head down to valet. Its 4am and we all have been drinking so we do not want to take hour ride home. We get room down the street at a Holiday Inn. My girl goes right to bed, but Jay and I keep drinking. We take her keys and head down to the parking lot so we can head back to the casino to gamble. Retarded, yes I know. She calls my phone complaining about us trying to go back and demands we bring car back. She meets us in parking lot and says shes going home. We decide to stay with no car. I call up the dealer I've been talking to and have her meet me at Holiday Inn because she just got off work. I'm drunk and offer her a drink. She declines cause it's daylight out and I end up smashing it anyway. I then ask her for a ride back to the casino because I figure it will be a new security shift. I check into a comp room under my own name and head up the elevators. As soon as I turn corner off elevator, one of the lower level security guards who was present earlier while I was being ejected is waiting to go down. I tell him I had no place to stay and give him a $300 tip. He seems cool about it and lets us go. Twenty minutes later security is at our door. Fuck, gotta go I guess. They seem pretty irritated with me at this point. I try to leave, but they hold the elevator doors waiting for tribal police. They then held me until state police arrived, who gave me a simple trespass citation. Told me not to return and sent me off in a taxi. Well we could go home, but fuck it, I still wanna gamble.
"Take me to the Bellissimo!" I demanded to the cab driver. This is a hotel near the neighboring casino Foxwoods. You might think why I didn't go there in the first place. I'm actually ejected from there at the time too. I check into the presidential suite and get a little sleep. That afternoon we wake up and call Chris because we have no car. He drives over to meet us. We call the girl dealer and all hang out. In the mean time I'm dealing with phone calls about my GF losing the $200 gift card I gave her and her cell phone being missing. Also I am missing a $300 pair of sunglasses I let my step-sisters cousin wear the night before. Eventually I find out he took them home and will give me them. Anyway I have like $2k on me and head to Foxwoods. I dust it off relatively quickly after food and drinks. We head back to the room and I decide to call another friend of mine from back home. He comes down to the casino to play poker daily, so I ask him to pick up $2k from my house and bring it down to me. He arrives a couple hours later.
I head back to Foxwoods and straight to the single-zero wheel but decide to leave the cooler, AKA Poker Jay in the room. I let Chris play with $300 hoping he would have better luck than me. But he lost and said he was gonna take a walk. I buy in for $700 and about 12 spins later I had $10k in chips. I was relieved. I met Chris to grab a bite to eat, then he dropped me back off at the hotel. Went to sleep and the next day Chris gave us a ride back home. Also a side-note, after a month or so of investigating the missing gift card I was given what, where, and when the money was used. I concluded my step-sister had stole it as she spent some of the money off it on her Secret Santa gift selection at our family Christmas. After she spent weeks blaming her cousin and his wife claiming she knew for a fact but not to confront them about it because they gave her the $200 to repay me. Haven't talked to her since.

Made it through a holiday party

Went to Foxwoods (casino) with my boyfriend on Saturday for his company's holiday party. Thankfully he doesn't drink either.
We went to his boss' hotel suite before the dinner where people were mingling and pre-gaming (there was a freaking marble counter bar built into the room). The boss' wife was being a super hospitable host and was drinking champagne (my favorite). I mentioned I didn't drink when she offered me a glass of bubbly or a beer and I could tell she felt really awkward -- not because she offered me alcohol when I don't drink anymore but because she didn't have anything else to offer me. She had her husband, owner of my boyfriend's company, go to the vending machine in the hallway and buy an overpriced bottle of Aquafina. I felt terribly embarrassed. She was super friendly, though, and put ice in a plastic champagne flute for me to drink the water so I could still "feel festive."
When it came to the dinner, however, I was sort of put under the spotlight. I had dressed up nice and haven't met any of these people before so I was getting a lot of attention and compliments. When people complimented me they then asked why I wasn't drinking anything or if I'd like a drink. I said I was fine, water was good for me. Some people accepted that answer but others didn't. They tried to pressure me, "just one drink ain't gonna kill ya," but I insisted that I can't stop at one.
For me, one drink triggers a landslide. As long as alcohol is available, I'll drink it. As more people came to the table, more people asked. I felt people turning to listen to my excuse and reasoning, maybe seeing if it would change. I tried to think that was just in my mind, people don't actually care why I'm not drinking, but then my boyfriend (who isn't very aware of his surroundings) picked up on it as well. I hid in the bathroom for a little bit after I was finished with my plate. Thankfully there was coffee for dessert and I gladly had four cups of the stuff (though I was still yawning).
I went to bed sober and woke up exhausted nonetheless but glad that I wasn't hungover or made an ass of myself. During checkout we saw a few people from the night before and they looked like total wrecks. They also reeked of morning-after booze, the smell just emanating from their flesh. I wish I could moderate my alcohol intake but I can't, so I'm fine with my all or nothing approach. I'm sticking with nothing.
Happy holidays, everyone, and stay strong. I can honestly say that I haven't been sober this long just to ruin it with one night of pressure, no matter how delicious champagne may be.

Dave Atell, Jim Breuer, Bill Burr, and Jim Norton coming to DC

Friday May 13th the Anti-Social Network is coming to DC...
The Anti-Social Network features the combination of comedic powerhouses Dave Attell, Jim Breuer, Bill Burr and the show’s host and brainchild, Jim Norton. Norton conceived the idea for The Anti-Social Network in late 2010 when he wanted to change up his annual shows in Atlantic City put something special and different together for his fans. Having four headliners on one stage seemed to be the perfect way to give his fans a new and exciting show: “Dave, Jim and Bill are three of the funniest comics on the planet. This is definitely the best show I’ve ever been a part of.”
After selling out its three premiere performances in the Event Center at the Borgata Hotel Casino in Atlantic City in record time, an additional date was at added the MGM Grand Theatre at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut, selling equally as fast as the inaugural shows. Demand from fans for across the country hit a fever-pitch after the success of these initial dates. In only three months, over 12,000 tickets had been sold for the Anti-Social Network, solidifying the idea to bring the tour to the rest of the country.
Anyone interested in going? I was thinking of doing a meetup but I'm not sure how that will work as tickets will probably sell out fast. Also, it's relatively expensive.
